PRECHT RESIDENCE REDESIGN, Burbank, CA

A 1930s Burbank bungalow is home to adult working parents, and a young son and dog. The house faces the street but the kitchen faces a back yard and potential future addition of work studio for the writer father. The task was to redesign a new kitchen and integrate it with the adjacent dining room and bedroom hallway. Additionally, a small office was to be converted into a dining nook opening to the backyard deck. The design inquiry comprised questions about the client family’s use of the space. The front of the house faces the street but this part of the house is private to the back where the young son plays. Drawing the view of the street into the kitchen was achieved through designing a bay window to the outside which added a modernist, angular design element to the exterior.
