MERRICK RESIDENCE, Galisteo, NM

This project for an architectural photographer, his artist wife and family entailed a new master bathroom and new family living area in a historic house that had belonged to actor Burl Ives. It took a corner of the old house and wound into it from the main bedroom into the new bath. A conversion of an oversized tub that had been sunken into a curved spa flanked by a blade-shaped and boomerang-shaped bench completely changed the space. The boomerang angle repeats in the shape of the suspended cabinet holding his/hers sinks, and in the arcs of corner mirrors.  The living space connected to the house’s central hallway but posited a perpendicular connection between central axis and the settling point for family life.
